Working with the Horticulture Industry
Panks have worked with East Anglia’s horticulturists for over 170+ years. With you growing success as our goal, we want to help you achieve the best results possible.
Whatever the scale of your operation, from field-based intensive salad production to nurseries, commercial landscapers to keen domestic gardeners – guaranteed we have the right applications to work for you.
And just like you we understand the increasing need to employ more energy efficient methods and water conserving measures. We are proud to be able to say we understand current technology for environmentally friendly and cost-effective growing.
Whatever the size of your area or project, we will have the equipment, expertise and experience to irrigate it.
Whether it is misting seedlings in glasshouses or drip irrigation in intensive protected cropping our experts will work with you to assess the best options for your site. For fruit growers requiring drip sprinklers for strawberries to landscapers working on commercial or private projects we can design a complete irrigation solution to meet your needs.
Unlike other companies we design, specify, supply and can install the entire package ourselves. From drilling a borehole to installing specialist conduit systems for floating lettuces, we can supply and apply the water just where it’s needed.
In today’s unpredictable English climate you cannot guarantee the rainfall – but with a Panks watering system you can ensure your crops will get all the water they need.
If you are looking for long-term cost-effectiveness and green efficiency let us advise you on the potential of installing your own private water supply.
A groundwater abstraction borehole taps into underground reservoirs, or aquifers, found across the entire eastern region. A borehole, fitted with specialist bore-pumps can supply you with vast quantities of water – free of charge up to a maximum of 20,000 litres a day or 20m3.*
We can move the water from source to wherever it is required at whatever pressure you require, up to 3 bar. Other than electricity to the pump system and services or repairs, there is little in the way of running cost.
Another borehole benefit is that groundwater responds slowly to changes in rainfall so stays readily available during dry summer months.
Convert your water supply (potable or non-potable) to groundwater abstraction and Panks will provide you with a complete solution: we make the initial site assessments, drill the borehole, install the pumping system and water treatment plant if required and get your water up and running.
In Norfolk and Suffolk, areas with notoriously hard mains water, rainwater harvesting provides the natural softer alternative; a chemical free alternative which plants respond well to and which does not scale up your equipment.
Rainwater run-off from glasshouses, roofs and guttering flows through downpipes and is filtered, stored and passed through a water treatment plant if required, before a packaged pumping station delivers it to where it’s needed.
And why not consider reusing all of your site’s grey water? It too can also be collected, filtered and stored, and passed through a water treatment plant before reuse around your site.
From our popular small shallow gravity fed tank which can be installed at a depth of less than 2metres in any garden (meaning less excavation, less concrete and less labour to install), up to large 100 m3 capacity underground attenuation tanks, the potential for rainwater harvesting is an option all horticulturists can benefit from.
The government is driving forward initiatives to increase sustainability and rainwater harvesting is a growing concern. We are on hand to meet your need for trusted and reliable installations.
If required, working in conjunction with a wastewater, borewater or rainwater harvesting application, our water treatment plants can deliver safe potable water. Operating with filters, media beds, ultraviolet lights or bacteria – we use as little chemical intervention as possible in the process.
Many rural destinations across East Anglia are not connected to a main sewer. Let Panks supply and install a packaged pumping station or treatment plant which will take care of all your waste water and effluent concerns.
No matter what the scale of your site, Panks can advise, size, specify and supply the most suitable solution for your requirements.
Our Mechanical and Electrical Contracts Department would be more than happy to talk to you regarding heating, lighting, ventilation and power across all your systems. Our in-house electricians are all NICEIC accredited.
Energy Engineer
Our dedicated Energy Engineer can assess the energy efficiency performance of your existing systems and work with you to find areas for improvement. We will overhaul or upgrade all mechanical, electrical or water related components to ensure efficiency gains. Through improved efficiency you will also trim back day-to-day expenditure on maintenance and operational costs, therefore making long term financial gains.
If you want the reassurance of full aftercare and servicing from Panks we can service your systems for you. Our service contracts are flexible, allowing you to decide the time frames to fit in with you and your business. For your total peace of mind, we operate an emergency breakdown service 24/7.
